Idaho Trying To Get Bowl Eligiable Before Dropping To The FCS Level

Recently in April Idaho announced they would be dropping down to the FCS level in college football with the Sun Belt not willing to strike a deal to keep them in the conference. With the Sun Belt adding Coastal Carolina, Idaho was forced out. The Vandals still had the option of staying on the FBs level as an independent, but Idaho AD said "that wasn't very attractive to us." With the Mountain West conference denying Idaho, the AD announced this this will be their second last season on the FBS level and will join the Big Sky in 2018.
With that being said, Idaho is still fighting for another chance to make another bowl appearance in the two seasons they have left. Being road underdogs and flying across America the Vandals went in Louisiana Monroe and stole a 34-31 road victory in a game that senior kicker Austin Rehkow hit the game winning field goal.
Idaho now sits at 3-3 on the season for a team that is averaging just 2.9 wins a year since 2000 and has only made one bowl appearance since that time. Idaho will host 2-3 New Mexico State Saturday, also a team that is dropping to the FCS in 2018. Head Coach Paul Petrino said "The amount of money was impossible for them to stay at the FBS level as independent." Petrino did say he was looking forward to coaching at Idaho in the future.
Leaving FBS level with Idaho will also be their home stadium The Kibbe Dome, This unique structure is actually a field house that originally built to be outside, but later added a roof to it. This stadium holds just 14,000 the lowest in the FBS.
After being projected to finish 3-9 this year, Idaho may be a team you want to root for to get to a bowl game.
