UnderDog Blog Top 10: Week 7
Every wonder who the best of the little guys are? Well here is our MAC/SunBelt/C-USA/Mountain West top 10 ranking jammed into one. Once again, this list is released every Monday.
1. Western Michigan (7-0, 3-0): Not only did they beat Akron they all around destroyed them. Reminder; this Akron team was 4-2 and 2-0 in the MAC. The Zips also had a top 20 offense in the nation and the Broncos shut them out 41-0 as they overtook Boise for the top spot this week. NEXT vs #9 Eastern Michigan.
2. Boise State (6-0, 3-0): Boise faced their first deficit of the year as they trailed Colorado State 3-0 after one. As the game went on Jeremy McNicholas warmed up as Boise went up 28-3 and all seemed to be good. Then the final 10 minutes of the fourth quarter came. The Rams of CSU scored 20 straight points and all of a sudden Boise almost let the game slip away, but a forward lateral would end the game and seal a 28-23 Bronco win. NEXT vs. BYU
3. San Diego State (5-1, 2-0): Another Mountain West team to round out the top 3. It wasn't pretty, but San Diego State beat a bad Fresno State team 17-3 on Friday night. Donnel Pumphrey ran for 200+ yet again and the SDSU defense was great....yet again. The streak continues in Conference games for Rocky Long NEXT vs. San Jose State
4. Appalachian State (4-2, 2-0): App State was on center stage as they played on Thursday Night and crushed the Ragin Cajuns of Lafayette 24-0. App State defense has now gone 8 quarters since allowing a Touchdown. We are getting closer to a Troy/Appalachian showdown for the Sun Belt. NEXT vs. Idaho
5. Central Michigan (5-2, 2-1): It took them OT, but they beat a 1-6 NIU team 34-28. Don't be fooled by NIU's record because they are a lot better team then 1-6 plus Central Michigan was playing on the road. Cooper Rush showed why he is the best QB in the MAC with 3 touchdown passes again on Saturday. NEXT @ #7 Toledo
6. Troy (5-1, 3-0): Wasn't their best play, but Troy did beat Georgia State on Saturday 31-21. Coming in as 20 point favorites, but led by just 3 in the 4th quarter. Trojans have played better, but they got the win and stayed unbeaten in the Sun Belt. Big game with their rivals up coming. NEXT: @ South Alabama
7. Toledo: (5-1, 2-0) Once again, a team that barely hangs on to bad a pretty bad team. Rockets beat Bowling Green on a last second touchdown. Toledo is sitting very quietly at 5-1 and should be 6-0. They could deny Western Michigan a chance to go unbeaten in a couple of weeks. NEXT: vs. #5 Central Michigan.
8. Wyoming (4-2, 2-0): Cowboys have the week of, but is still probably feeling pretty good after a big win against Air Force a week ago. NEXT @ Nevada
9. Eastern Michigan (5-2, 2-1): First time this year all three teams from Michigan are ranked. EMU got a bounce back over a pretty good Ohio team. Why is Eastern Michigan actually good? Because the Eagles have been fantastic in close games at 3-0 in games decided by one possession. HUGE Game next week for the Eagles. NEXT @ #1 Western Michigan
10. Western Kentucky (4-3, 2-1): The only Conference USA team enters at #10. The Hilltoppers were able to climb into the top of 10 with a big win over Mid Tennessee State 44-43. Western really needed this game to keep their conference championship hopes alive after a Louisiana Tech 55-52 defeat. The running game was able to come alive and get the win on overtime. NEXT vs. Old Dominion
Others In Consideration: Middle Tennessee State, Akron, Southern Mississippi, Colorado State, Idaho, Florida International, Ohio
