Week 7 Conference Wrap Up: Sun Belt

Appalachian State 24 Louisiana Lafayette 0: The Mountaineers improved to 2-0 with a convincing win over Lafayette on Saturday.  App State is ranked number 19 in the nation in scoring defense and the streak is now 9 quarter since they have given up a touchdown.
Appalachian State (4-2, 2-0) NEXT vs. Idaho
Louisiana Lafayette (2-4, 1-2) NEXT @ Texas State

Georgia Southern 24 Georgia Tech 35: After a great effort, the Eagles fell to Georgia Tech in a battle of triple option offensives. GSU started 3-0, but have lost three straight.  With a game against #12 Ole Miss left plus Appalachian State and Troy, GSU could be in danger of missing out on a bowl game in year one of Tyson Summers.
Georgia Southern (3-3, 2-1) NEXT @ New Mexico State

Georgia State 21 Troy 31: After entering as 20 point road underdogs Georgia State hung around and only trailed by three going into the 4th quarter.  Georgia State scorched the Troy secondary throwing for nearly 400 yards.  What did in the Panthers was three turnovers.  On the hand, Troy remains unbeaten in the Sun Belt despite a lack luster performance.  Brandon Silvers touchdown late in the 4th put the game away.  Just a couple weeks away from Troy/Appalachian State in a game that could determine the winner of the Sun Belt.
Troy (5-1, 3-0) NEXT @ South Alabama
Georgia State (1-5, 1-2) NEXT vs. Tennessee Martin

New Mexico State 23 Idaho 55: What a performance from the Vandals! A couple days ago I wrote a piece on how cool it would be if Idaho could get to a bowl game before dropping to the FCS, now they are just two wins away from doing so.  QB Matt Linehan went off going 29-36 for 476 yards and 4 Touchdowns.  The Vandals offense put up 651 yards of offense.  On the flip side, it was a disappointing game for New Mexico State.  This game would of made it a lot easier to get 6 wins and go bowling.  The Aggies led 13-7 after the first quarter, but the defense struggled the rest of the game. New Mexico State is now giving up 45 points a game, 2nd worst in the entire nation.
Idaho (4-3, 2-1) NEXT @ Appalachian State
New Mexico State (2-4, 1-2) NEXT vs. Georgia Southern

Texas State 34 Louisiana Monroe 40: In possible what was the best game of the week, the Bobcats could not mount the comeback despite scoring the last 13 points. Also, Texas State controlled the ball for just 18 minutes while Monroe had it four 42 minutes. Texas State drove down to the ULM 32 with 4 seconds left, but Tyler Jones' pass fell incomplete.
Texas State (2-4, 0-2) NEXT vs. Louisiana Lafayette
Louisiana Monroe (2-4, 1-2) NEXT @ New Mexico

South Alabama 7 Arkansas State 17:  Two of the best defensive's in the league clashed on Saturday Night.  We knew this would not be pretty on the offensive end.  Just two offensive touchdowns were scored, but the Red Wolves struck first with a long scoop and score for a Touchdown.  Arkansas State was in control all game.  South Alabama finally connected on a deep play after Dallas Davis completed a pass to Gerald Everett for 76 yards with 6 minutes in the 4th quarter.  South Alabama got into Arkansas State territory 5 times and scored just once.  After started 3-0 in the non conference South Alabama has yet to win a Sun Belt game.
South Alabama (3-3, 0-3) NEXT vs. Troy
Arkansas State (2-4, 2-0) NEXT vs. Louisiana Monroe
